I Surrender ALL

Over the past week, the hymn " I surrender all" has been playing over and over in my head. It could be called the anthem of "altar calls" at church. However, something said to me , there is more to this song that regular altar calls. I gave it some thought and pondered on the words of the hymn. This hymn is so powerful in that it speaks of giving your ALL to God. Surrendering every you have to God, your hopes, plans, dreams, fears, your life , your all. I went a step further and searched for the history of this great hymn.
I SURRENDER ALL"

Words: Judson W. Van DeVenter, 1896:

"The song was written while I was conducting a meeting at East
Palestine, Ohio, in the home of George Sebring (founder of the
Sebring Campmeeting Bible Conference in Sebring, Ohio, and later
developer of the town of Sebring, Florida). For some time, I had
struggled between developing my talents in the field of art and going
into full-time evangelistic work. At last the pivotal hour of my life
came, and I surrendered all. A new day was ushered into my life. I
became an evangelist and discovered down deep in my soul a talent
hitherto unknown to me. God had hidden a song in my heart, and
touching a tender chord, He caused me to sing."

1. All to Jesus I surrender;
all to him I freely give;
I will ever love and trust him,
in his presence daily live.

Refrain:
I surrender all, I surrender all,
all to thee, my blessed Savior,
I surrender all.

2. All to Jesus I surrender;
humbly at his feet I bow,
worldly pleasures all forsaken;
take me, Jesus, take me now.

3. All to Jesus I surrender;
make me, Savior, wholly thine;
fill me with thy love and power;
truly know that thou art mine.

4. All to Jesus I surrender;
Lord, I give myself to thee;
fill me with thy love and power;
let thy blessing fall on me.

5. All to Jesus I surrender;
now I feel the sacred flame.
O the joy of full salvation!
Glory, glory, to his name!

Are there areas of your life you are still holding back, trying to figure it out all on your own? Struggling with a load that is too heavy for you to bear? Trying to map out the journey of your life on your own? I charge you as I do myself to surrender all to him. Keep giving it all up to him till you get to a point where you totally and truly trust him with your all. At that point, you can sing that song with confidence, knowing that you truly have surrendered all to him.
